Abstract

In order to address 5G challenges, there is a need to shape the future networks in order to handle the growing traffic. Therefore, Telco clouds set on Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Software Defined Network (SDN) are introduced. SDN and NFV softwarize networks in order to support the new requirements of the future communication ecosystem. Thanks to Telco Clouds, network functions can be deployed, accessed and run like any information technology application hosted in cloud computing. However, network functions differ from IT applications. They need carrier-grade characteristics consisting of strict requirements in dependability (e.g. five nines availability). In fact, dependability is a regulator requirement in the telecommunication sector. For instance, unlike the IT applications where outages lasting some seconds are tolerable, telecommunication services outage expectation should not exceed some milliseconds. In traditional telecommunication networks, these features are guaranteed by proprietary hardware that host network functions. In Telco cloud context, there is an emergency need to adapt cloud environments in order to guarantee carrier-class behaviour.

In this regard, this thesis aims first to integrate dependability in the service models of cloud computing coherently based on the princi-ples and the paradigms of architecture frameworks. The second goal is to integrate dependability in Telco clouds through taking the car-rier grade requirements into account. To this matter, we propose first a migration model towards cloud computing based on TOGAF ar-chitecture framework that guarantees building a coherent and interoperable cloud architecture. Then, we suggest a second model that in-tegrates dependability with respect to three dimensions according to TOGAF principles. These dimensions take into consideration the participation of three cloud actors, the interaction between the cloud service models along the different architecture levels. After that, we design an architecture based on the cloud broker and define its operation mechanisms for dependability implementation. Based on the evaluation of the fault severity impact, this architecture takes the decision of service delivery. Finally, we adapt and extend this ar-chitecture to the telecommunication context using SDN and NFV concepts. The proposed architecture takes into consideration the dif-ferent availability levels defined for telecommunication services in order to guarantee a carrier-grade NFV system.
